Arequipa is located in the Southern Volcanic Mountain. The city is built on the slopes of the Misti Volcano (5825m). Arequipa is famous for its colonial architecture which characterise the Churches of the Compania and Santo Domingo. The Arequipa Cathedral with its Neo-Renaissancist style is totally built of white sillar (volcanic stones) which made it very original. Other attractions are the Church of San Francisco, the Temple La Recoleta , the convent of Santa Catalina, the Church of San Juan (1750) in Yanahuara District, a quiet suburb. You will see parts of town you'd otherwise miss, enjoy great views of Arequipa and El Misti from its Mirador, and the main square is beautiful with a 500 year-old church and huge palm trees. And besides, one of the best restaurants in the area is out this way too! The Colca Canyon is one of Peru’s most visited spots. From there you can get the chance to admire the amazing flies of condors. To have a real insight of all what the Colca offers you need to spend at least two days overthere. A one day trip is not advisable for anybody. If the tours includes cultural, ecological or sports activities, the trip should be five or more days.
