Peru is a country where people of different cultures have learnt to live together. Described by the famous Peruvian writer, Jose Maria Arguedas (1993), as a country of ‘all bloods’, Indian, Black and European. Peru is a multicultural country where the rights of minority ethnic groups are recognised although the struggle against prejudices remains alive in some places. Peru has a population composed mainly of Amerindians and Mestizo (mixed Amerindians and people of European descent). But the Peruvians of Spanish, African, Japanese, and Chinese descent among other minority groups cannot be ignored. Their contribution to the Peruvian society are much significant. |
